The total number of motor vehicle sales in Australia fell at a faster rate in August, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed Monday. New motor vehicle sales dropped by a seasonally adjusted 1.8 percent month-over-month in August followed by the 1.5 percent decline in July. Sports utility vehicle sales dropped 3.7 percent and passenger utility vehicle sales fell 1.8 percent. Meanwhile, sales of other vehicles increased 1.4 percent. Among the states, vehicle sales in Tasmania fell the most, by 5.9 percent in August. This was followed by a 5.6 percent decline in the Northern Territory and a 4.6 percent drop in Western Australia.
